COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Secondary gain is defined as the advantage that occurs secondary to stated or real illness. These rewards can be emotional, physical or even monetary. One level of concern is exaggerating of symptoms on purpose to pursue gain. Unconscious responses can be an even more pernicious problem. Neuroplasticity offers a path to recovery for people suffering Stroke and Head Injury, though the path is difficult and requires massed practice (large amounts of repetition and training). Destructive personal narratives can derail recovery. This seminar considers ways to derail destructive narratives, engage positivenarrativesofhealingandengageneurologicalprocessthatpromotebrainplasticityandcanlead torecovery.
